Resources for Teachers
Teachers
Teachers are in a unique position as it relates to youth and mental health. The opinions of the educator towards the youth and/or parent can have lasting impact. For example, a recommendation to the parents of a youth for “ADHD” testing can be alarming to the family and anxiety provoking to the youth. It could set the stage for a lifetime of medication use by the youth along with the corresponding physical/psychological side effects inherent in any drug approach. The Board feels strongly that educators, like physicians, must first “do no harm” as it pertains to youth and their mental health. In an effort to aid educators in understanding mental health issues sometimes faced by youth, the ‘Teachers Section’ of the website has been developed.
