Ethics: A Comparison of the Ethics Codes for Mental Health and Addictions Professionals

3:00pm – 4:30pm    Codes of ethics, supervision rules, scenarios, wrap-up and evaluation

This training will explore the ethics standards for mental health professionals licensed by the CSWMFT Board and chemical dependency counseling professionals credentialed by the OCDP Board. Topics will include certification and licensure requirements, scope of practice, codes of ethics, supervision rules and a discussion of the commonalities and differences between the ethics rules for different licenses/credentials.

 Learning objectives

  1.  Explain the current ethics regulations that apply to the common behavioral health licensures and certifications and what applies to most or all.
  2.  Differentiate between licensure requirements, scope of practice, and codes of ethics for the different credentialed behavioral health providers.
  3.  Examine specific nuances of ethics regulations that may apply to different providers or situations.

 Christy Ellis-Trolian, MA, JD, LPCC-S, LICDC-CS

 Director, Center for Addictions at Ashland University

 Christy Ellis-Trolian is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with training supervision designation (LPCC-S), a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor - Clinical Supervisor (LICDC-CS) and an inactive Licensed Attorney at Law in the state of Ohio. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Counseling from the University of Akron as well as a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Akron School of Law. She has over 20 years of experience in mental health and addictions counseling, supervision, and administration and has taught at the graduate and undergraduate level for the past 6 years. 

This training is approved for 3 hours of continuing education in ethics for counselors and social workers through the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Ashland County and State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage & Family Therapist Board.  Number: RCS051305

Additionally, 3 hours of Registered Clock Hours has been authorized by The Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board an approved provider of Registered Clock Hours by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. Number: 02-0709-38PVN
