Suicide Prevention & Awareness Walk 2021

Sunday, September 26, 2021 - 1:30pm

September 26, 2021

The 5th Annual Suicide Awareness & Prevention Walk will be in-person this year, with the opportunity to join virtually!

Walk & Silent Watch

This year, we’re partnering with the Silent Watch taking place all day on September 26 across from Corner Park. We encourage all walk participants to consider including the Silent Watch as part of their journey. You can learn more about the Silent Watch here.

In-Person Walk

Join us for the live walk at the AU Convo from 1:30-4 PM on the day of the race.

Please follow social distancing protocols and be sensitive to other participants who are walking, running, or jogging in the event.

In case of rain, the event will take place inside the Ashland University Recreation Center, located at 1000 King Rd. in Ashland.

Virtual Walk

For those interested in participating via a virtual walk, feel free to walk, run or jog one mile independently or with friends.

This is a free event and there is no need to solicit donations. The first 200 people to register for this free event will get the choice of a t-shirt or water bottle on the day of the walk. We have a limited supply of t-shirts and sizes.

If you would like to take the next step, here are a few resources our partners offer:

  • The MHRB offers Suicide Prevention training (QPR) at no cost to any group/organization in Ashland.
  • MHRB funds a Grievers Support Group for those who’ve lost a loved one to suicide. People who are interested can contact Appleseed for this service.
  • MHRB recently launched a new mobile app called, "Healthy Ashland" with many practical resources to help someone struggling with emotional distress. The app also includes information about crisis services if needed.
  • MHRB promotes "Crisis Text Line" which is available 24/7 to anyone struggling with thoughts of suicide or for someone who needs to make a connection and not feel alone. Text "4Hope" to 741741 to get connected.
  • Additionally, the local 24/7 Crisis Line is available for someone in crisis by calling  (419) 289-6111
